Shopping Online? Be Safe

Online shopping has caught on fast. The benefits are many. Convenient, good bargains, fast shipping, easy returns are just a few.

But beware of the phishing attacks. They are there waiting to steal your data and money. Though phishing has come down in recent years, the sites with malware has increased by 89%. You need to simply use your common sense and some guidelines to stay safe. Don’t give all your details and never buy online from a site that doesn’t have SSL (secure sockets lock). Check your statements regularly and get protection against malware updating your anti-virus programs.

Shopping Needs Preparation

We all need a reminder of how to shop smart. You need a few strategies before you head out the door.

• Make a list- This will help avoid buying unwanted things and save you time.
• Set a Budget- If you do not want to overspend it is important you have a budget.
• Use Cash – Research has shown that we spend 20-50% more when we use credit/debit cards.
• Stick to a timing- Many people stroll around a shopping centre aimlessly. Set a timeframe and once that is over, step out.
• Shop alone and do not shop when you are tired or hungry.
